Emergency Response Volunteer (St Albans)

When there is a fire, flood or severe weather, we’re among the first to respond.

\n

You must be located within 30 minutes of St Alban's fire station (AL1 1TQ).

\n

This is a 24-hour service and volunteers will need to be available when on call.

\n

We would like volunteers who:

\n

\n
• Are able to volunteer on a regular basis.
\n
• Can volunteer on a rota basis for a minimum of 2 x 6 hours shifts per month.
\n
• Have held a driving licence for at least 2 years which allows you to drive in the UK.
\n
• Are confident driving a large British Red Cross vehicle or leased vehicle.
\n
• Are able to attend monthly team meetings – normally held on a Thursday evening.
\n
• Are available to undertake required e-learning modules and online training sessions in the first few months of volunteering plus other service‑specific trainings as required.
\n
• Can commit to volunteering for at least 12 months.
\n
• Are comfortable with lone working.
\n
• Have the following skills – flexible; a good listener; service‑user focused; a team player; and another language would be beneficial.
\n

Due to the nature of this role, applicants must undergo Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. Applicants will be asked to provide ID documents in support of the DBS check.

\n

Unfortunately we aren't able to accept applications from 15 – 17 year olds for this role. Please get in touch and we can support you to find another role in your area.

Working alongside the local emergency services every day, from house fires and flooding to power cuts and water shortages, the British Red Cross responds to an emergency almost every 4 hours.

As an Emergency Response Volunteer, you will give people the support they need at a time they need it the most.

• Give emotional support to people and communities affected by an emergency.
\n
• Give practical support such as distributing clothing, food or water after an emergency.
\n
• Tell people where they can get extra support.
\n
